Councillors
Councillors are elected to the local council to represent their local community. A councillor’s main roles are:
- respond to queries and investigate concerns
- communicate council decisions
- know and work with representatives of local organisations, interest groups and businesses
- represent their views at council meetings
- lead local campaigns
Town Councillors are bound by the Local Authorities Model Code of Conduct (Wales) Order 2008 in carrying out their duties. Councillors are required to act in accordance with six general principles:
- Promotion of equality and respect for others
- Accountability and openness
- Duty to uphold the law
- Selflessness and stewardship
- Objectivity and propriety
- Integrity
